Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation
Students in agricultural education study courses in science, agriculture, general education and professional education to prepare them for teaching secondary agricultural education or for pursuing a variety of careers that require training in education and agriculture. A 12-week off-campus student teaching experience in a selected school district is required.
Academic Advisement
Agricultural education students have faculty advisers to ensure each student's unique interests and professional aspirations are taken into consideration. Advisers assist students in identifying their career objectives and in reaching career preparation goals.
Student Organizations
The department sponsors a wide range of student organizations to assist students in gaining the leadership, interpersonal and professional skills needed for a successful career and personal fulfillment. Student organizations include Collegiate FFA, Alpha Tau Alpha, Collegiate 4-H, Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and Collegiate Farm Bureau.

Approximately 140 undergraduate students are enrolled in OSU's agricultural education program. Some students have double majors, which are available in animal science, agricultural economics and horticulture.

What is the salary of a beginning agricultural education teacher?
The minimum starting salary for Oklahoma agriculture teachers in the 2006-2007 school year is approximately $39,600. That figure is expected to increase during the next several years. Salaries in other states will vary with the community and location.
What is the number of female agricultural education teachers?
Oklahoma's number of female agriculture teachers has doubled in the last five years. About 1,000 of the nation's 12,000 agriculture teachers are women.
What can I do if I decide not to teach?
Over the past five years, 60 percent of OSU's agricultural education graduates took teaching jobs, and the other 40 percent took jobs in corporate agriculture, extension, sales or banking. Agricultural education graduates are prepared for a wide variety of jobs in the agriculture industry because they have a broad base of knowledge, combined with excellent people skills.
